Native Plant Garden Project

Thanks to a grant from the Xerces Society (https://xerces.org), and with the assistance of the Monterey State Historic Park staff, the Historic Garden League renovated one of the large plant beds at the Casa del Oro garden. Non-native plants were removed from the Scott Street area in the summer of 2025, and in September a new irrigation system was installed, in addition to a cardboard barrier and mulching for weed suppression.

The native habitat kits arrived from Xerces in October and HGL members worked through November to place the young plants in their new home. We invite you to view the new plantings. Let’s hope for a good rainy season and no deer!
